So, I drove an Atego 1523 with the manual box for a bunch of years. Manual is weirdly indestructible, but the shift linkages get sloppy as the miles go up - sometimes you’re hunting for gears, not fun when you’re tired. I had to stay on top of the wheel hub maintenance too, especially after hauling pretty hefty loads, and if you skip the oil changes or don’t spot leaks, the axle repairs get expensive fast. On the bright side, the brakes are powerful but the caliper guide pins can wear out unless you replace the seals on time, so watch for that. Inside’s roomy but basic, nothing fancy. It’s solid machinery but you’ve got to look after it, or it’ll bite back.

I recently bought the Mercedes-Benz Atego 1218. In my opinion, it's a reliable truck that officially carries 7.5 tons, but for me it carries 9. So the load capacity is better than expected. Compared to MAN, of course, it is more rigid.

I have been using the Mercedes-Benz Atego 818 for 3 years now, and there are no problems. The suspension is good, road bumps are not noticeable. The engine is reliable, with a long service life.

Operating a 2001 Atego during long routes gave insight into its fuel-efficient engine, a real advantage for extended usage. However, maintaining the electronic systems requires attention, especially in regions of high humidity.

Tested the medium-weight version for distribution. The extended cab has decent space. Engine power handles light cargo without strain. Transmission options are useful for specific needs. No major issues noticed.

I spend long hours in the cab, so storage and comfort are high on my list. The shelf space is useful for all the paperwork and random bits. I like having the ClassicSpace L-cab when I have overnights - two bunks, plenty of room not to feel boxed in. The dash is well set up, but some of the plastic feels a bit basic compared to more plush trucks I've tried. Dealer network has been good, but I wish the warranty was longer - engine's covered fairly, but only one year all round seems short for a truck priced like this. Heard about a few recalls lately but nothing that's hit me yet, touch wood. Not cheap to buy, but the thing holds its value much better than some others when you want to move it on. Not perfect but it gets the job done for me.

Been driving the Atego 816 day cab for a while. Shifting to the automated Powershift 3 gearbox took some getting used to but it beats grinding out manual gears all day. No complaints about the torque when loaded up, engine's actually got a bit more grunt than I expected from a 7.5t. Cab step is low, easy to hop in and out, but the tunnel between the seats is annoying if you like scooting across. Comfort's alright, seat's got air but only for the driver - so no luxury for passengers. Decent payload, though there are others lighter on their feet. Overall, gets the job done, not perfect but I got no major issues with it.

Been driving the Atego mostly for distribution work around city centers. Gotta say, really appreciate the small footprint. I get into spots I wouldn't even attempt with bigger trucks. The steering lock is way better than I expected, tight turning everywhere. Inside, cab space is good, got more places to stash stuff than most rigs I've driven. Ride comfort is decent, nothing fancy but I do my shift without feeling busted up.

BlueTec 5 engine does its job, can't say it's the quietest around, but good on fuel. Start-stop tech is on point, cuts my fuel bill. Maintenance hasn't been much, brakes feel sharp - ABS kicks in when you need it. Only gripe, for something so techy inside, some bits feel a bit plain, like the door panels. Overall though, daily drive is smooth.

The Atego's safety features, like lane-keep assist and active brake assist, were handy and seemed reliable. Although the driving seat was comfortable, the fixed passenger seat appeared less so for longer trips. The low chassis design facilitated loading and unloading, although ground clearance could be a concern on uneven terrain.
